When you think about a social network script, several things come to mind. 'Social network script' could mean the script of a movie by the same name based on the exciting rise to fame of the young founder of Facebook. But more often social network script means the program or code that powers these online social networks based on the Internet.

Powerful and versatile social network scripts allow anyone to easily and inexpensively set up a social networking site just like Facebook or Twitter. Indeed, if you run a Google search for 'clones' of any popular social networks, you'll find downloadable social network scripts allowing you to create similar functionality on your own site or server.

Why Social Network Scripts Matter

People love participating on social networks. So if you can use a social network script to create a clone of similar function in your niche, you can easily benefit from the online community you develop around your passion or business. And considering how profitable the larger social networks have grown, it is reasonable to expect similar profits can emanate from your own network built using a social network script.

Shared Interests

That's why people often prefer to stick with a favorite social network. Preferred Channels

As a marketer, I'm also an avid tester. Some of my testing is informal. I assess the channels that my friends prefer for engagement and interaction, and tailor my communication with them to fit those preferences. And different people favor and prefer specific kinds of social networks.

Consumption Constraints

I'm one of the few who actually consume the content in their social network streams. That's a reason I'm vigilant about overwhelm. I get involved - and so restrict my network to fit the limited time available in my crowded day. If I can browse your updates on Twitter in 2 minutes, I may skip your longer Facebook or G+ posts. Or I may enjoy those better. Depends.

By using social network scripts to create my preferred network, I'll end up spending most of my spare time on your site, rather than on the bigger Facebook or Twitter - if you provide me more value on your network.
